Hardacre (UK) returns to the fold with a second bag of eclectic tools on his self-titled label. The follow up to 001 is eagerly anticipated after producing a stunning debut EP that mixed inspiration from the Halcyon UK rave days with a futuristic twist. It’s a sound for the headz that has the potential to fuse dance-floors with oldskool and the next gen of ravers, a combination that similar labels including Art of Dark and Pleasure Club are also turning ears with. 002 projects another strong quartet of underground heavy-hitters that are built on foundations of sonic dream-scapes and possess an innovating dark club energy that is ready to do the damage.

The A1 ‘Control’ proceeds with a pressure cooker intro to the EP and like a mad scientist at play in the lab, Hardacre generates a vortex of sounds that are ready to burn. Inside the mix there’s a domineering acid-line chugging throughout the bassline. Slick breaks get the junglistic juices flowing and Trippy vox interjects to remind you this is not a test and that you’re under control.

A2 ‘Dream Sequence’ is a low-end heavy bubbler, it feels like a journey through space and time inside peak-time regions for when the soul needs lifting. Shards of glowing pads and lucid synths glare through the mix like a nova and fully amplify the intergalactic vibe, the extended breakdown provides a moment to take it all in and amps the intensity before one final crusade into the outer regions.

The tuffest cut of the EP and our Soundcloud premiere is ‘Future’ on B1. Theres some serious percussion-play at work with killer snares, drum fills and breaks creating a potent exterior to the track. A sequence of deviously dotted acid-lines do the talking in the bassline, perfectly automated and riding a wicked melody. In the latter state of the b-line a ghostly choir breathe hanting vocals into the mix to elevate ‘Future’ into spiritual territory.

The final cut is a pumping techy weapon. Out of the four tracks it’s the one that slides most towards the modern electro-infused tech house sound. The sharp hats and groove make it a proper 2-step skanker. Hardacre sprinkles droplets of acidic frequencies in the top-end to maximise the euphoria and underneath, the roaring sub-bass lurks like a wild animal ready to pounce. It’s a perfect selection for DJ’s opting to end a set with high-energy levels and optimum emotion.
