Strap on yer’ boots for a hedonistic blast into the galactic rave systems of Abdul Raeva. The Estonian pairing fuses the cosmic trajectories of Gestalt boss Steffan Todorović and the hard-edged, rapturous style of DJ Mannekeen. Together, their sound ellipses a blitz sonic electro that’s sourced with 90’s inspiration but splatted with a futuristic mindset.

The ‘Protogen EP’s is deployed by the Finnish heads at Echocentric recs, a label that oozes colour and eclectic vibrancy, since their debut they’ve garnered a rousing cast of forward-thinking talent that includes the likes of DJ Life, Solar Suite, Tom Place and Kayroy. It’s a fitting HQ for the AR noise and all four tracks of ECR013 are cut-throat warpers that are ready to shatter your celestial bass-bins.

‘Vapordisk’ kicks off the A1 with a bang. No messing about. Junglistic breaks, pumping beats and blood-rushing bass punch through the glass with an immediate impact as an air-raid siren even fire’s a warning shot about the oncoming swarm. A gnarling Prodigy style synth enters the slipstream, maxing out and twisting up as it threatens to spill out of control inside this peak-time flamethrower.

Next to enter the fray is ‘Acidflex’ (A2). It might be less explosive than the A1 but is formidably more groove focussed. Building tension mid-set as the vibe begins to rise. It’s perfectly titled as that’s exactly how you would describe the exerting d-floor motions this track will induce, letting loose the inner funk as the main acid-line injects straight into your veins.

Time for some space exploration. ‘Vela’ (B1) incorporates a sense of dimension travelling with astral pads and mystic noises eeking’ and circulating into the systems. The bassline rumbles on a deeper level but keeps a bubbling force like the engines of the ship floating through the cosmos after blasting though the ozone. In the aspect of a mix selection, it’s perfectly designed for closing out the after-hours when the air begins to cool and the spirits are drifting.

AR opt to close the EP with something more pulse-raising for the final lap but still exhibiting an end-game energy. The moment of solitude that the B1 produced is replaced by fragments of discovery and ‘New Horizons’ (B2). It feels like the return to earth as the bassline keeps burning and ignites the mix one last time as hats push through atmosphere and embers of weird arpeggios flicker out of the engines as the ship starts to land.
