02 – DJ Deep State – The Sound Of Water

Steffan Todorović and DJ MANNEKEEN have created somewhat of a mini monster with their Abdul Raeva alias. Quickfire releases with the likes of Duality Trax, Body High, Echocentric and most recently with Subwax’s new Physical Education venture has fastened them comfortably in the front seat of the pulsing Proggy sound. It’s a style that’s starting to sweep the scene off it’s feet, a pacey hybrid of u-tempo house and techno with super-sonic feel-good vibrations and pumping basslines. Abdul Raeva’s sound is synonymous with all of the former, so the sky really is the limit for where these two can take this exciting project.

Their latest package of tunes actually comes under a new guise from that the production duo. The ‘Shadowboxing’ EP is a mini two-tracker under their ‘DJ Deep State’ alias, a clear deviation into some deeper perimeters for the Estonian pair and a moniker that enables them to demonstrate a more dulcet aspect to their sound.

‘Eco Portal’ is a sun-kissed dream of mellow ecstasy and daisy fresh serenity. Meditative relaxation is the sole intention of this subtle breaks adventure, as shards of gleaming pads and mellifluous synths splatter the production with a euphonious haze. Whilst the scorching bass cruises through every last particle of the beat and chugs along like a euphonious bass-boat in the deepest green waters of the Maldives.

The super clean mix-downs these guy’s are cooking are impeccable, every last detail is so finely tuned and creates a chamber where the tracks have a serene nature but also possess the pump and potency of club trax.

Hearing these beauties on a big system in a hot climate would be rapturous pancakes for the ears, ‘The Sound Of Water’, like its co-pilot ‘Eco Portal’ would make a sublime intro track for any set, but wouldn’t sound out of place inside any spectrum of the earlier settings. Groove, progressive trajectory and sultry energy transmission are the key ingredients for both tracks, and ‘TSOW’ weaves another blazing bass injection with steppy drums and sweltering modular droplets to achieve maximum cruise-control.
