Bringing the Miami heat is spawning label Sarahtonin with a debut hammer from rising Argentinan producer Juaan. Recent features with EYA, Positive Future and Partisan have got him well on the Underground radar; and with support for this record coming in from the likes of Quest, Francesco Del Garda, Craig Richards and Sugar Free tell you all you need to know about the potency of his talent. The ‘Placer EP’ is a twisted four-tracker, dark and headzy with plenty of room for manoeuvre in every tune. Squelchy electro twinges meet 90’s infused tech-house as Juaan takes aim at the peak-time, with visions of a heavily loose dance-floor coming to mind as this EP is bound to encourage plenty of trance-inducing silliness.
A1 ‘Placer’ sets the tone perfectly with a subtle but deftly trippy heater, that’s both minimalistic and direct in parallel unison. The chugging bass and acute percussion create a tight sleazy introduction to the EP. Juaan wickedly fuses cow-bell esque synths and intrepid frequencies inside this blender to whip up a low-swung, hypnotic warning example of what’s to come but keeping a lid on the vibe.
A2 ‘Entre 2’ flips the switch immediately with the most dangerous cut of the EP. A cut-throat peak-time killer that promises to send the dance-floor into hysteria with it’s tripped-out cyclone of acid-twinged bass and razer blade hats as a swarm of uncertain synth notes add an element of trepidation to this freaky mind fuck.
The flip isn’t done with the madness and keeps you locked in to it’s predatory jaws as the energy levels stay at the absolute limits with the B1 ‘Arandamos’. Juaan fuels the next weapon with bubbling acid-lines and more tainted sounds that ignite everything in their path, as the acrobatic drums shift and slide to achieve the most ridiculous groove. Sherrifs office please!
Lastly, ‘Maicrofan’ ‘B2’ channels an end-of-set exuberance but still has more than enough in the tank to maintain the energy levels. A dogged roller, that’s fuelled with electro bite, enchanted melodies and high-spirited potency. It paints a picture of a fully-wired 4AM dance-floor, with relentless punters on their last legs and determined to stay until the final whistle. The extended break-down provides a solid moment of fortitude to take in all of the previous weirdness, before diving back into the mix for one last fervour.
