PREMIERE: Frankel & Harper – Menacing [Dansu Discs]
Dansu Discs return with the 3rd edition of their Club Culture series. Four club-ready, underground weapons from some of Londons finest up and comers’ with Frankel & Harper, T. Jacques, Main Phase all involved and includes a classic 1998 re-issue from Lavonz. Vol.3 comes through with a quadrant of UK sounds with each record amplifying varying moods but maintaining maximum dance-floor appeal.
The first track out of the blocks and our showcase for today is Frankel and Harpers subversive 125bpm monster, ‘Menacing’. The clue is in the title and they set the tone for the impending vibrations of the EP with a fierce housy stomper that falls into their ‘Council Work’ sound. Merging peircing drum snares, eerie synths and echoey vocals with a fierce sub-bass rumbling below the surface.
T. Jacques takes over with ‘Hot Java’ and takes things up a notch with another one of his electrifying house cuts. His beats have been setting tongues wagging this year and he doesn’t disappoint with another hypnotic groover to add to his ever-growing collection. We jump into a time-machine and land in the late 90’s with Lavonz bumpy garage classic ‘I Need Love’ getting a re-issue for the EP; and it’s still sounding fresh! Main Phase follows up with more UKG flavours and locks down the package with ‘Nice N’ Sweet’, a pouncing 2-step killer that will light up any dance-floor.
