D2 – Bauer – Swing [MDRW00]

Manufactured and produced in Peru, it’s the first release from fresh and forward-thinking label ‘Modern Rewind’. A double vinyl-only album that aims to showcase a high-calibre selection of male and female talent, with artists hailing from all corners of the South American geometrics. Inside the factory of sounds is a seismic fusing of diligent techno and acid-infused electro, but there’s also a splash of melancholic breaks and funky tech house to be found on the flip to breathe an animated flex into the climax of MDRW00.
Uruguayan rep Michelle hits the A1 with a thud. A highly talented artist that the scene is taking notice of with her mechanical productions and system-packed live sets. ‘Sphynx’ is twitchy and illuminating, a Detroit sounding creaper that’s jammed with throbbing acid hits, hissing hats and wonky frequencies. Ku$h follows with his colourful heater ‘Technocombia’ (A2); it’s dark and daring with whispers of mystery, all inherited inside it’s bewildering bassline. It absorbs you in with it’s twisting cyclone and is propelled by some more illuding high-freq synths.
Samuel Jabba exports his ‘From The Void Above’ sound to the EP and doesn’t disappoint. Switching up into peak-time motives, ‘Melomaniac’ (B1) channels the energy of a spooky late-set roller. Powered mostly by it’s high-octane electro bass, it sends out plenty of radial impulses and shifts throughout the bassline with varying acid hits and cosmic bleeps. Villaça drops the high-tempo onslaught of it’s B-side neighbour with a dark and tainted bass-bin of of electro. ‘Abordagem’ (B2) is a chamber of secrets that asks questions and answers them. It’s minimal but gritty. Make way for the sludgy acid-line, darting groove and radiating hats that bash together with a shifty force.
Trajano is making noise in Brazilian territories and has something mysterious and engaging to enter the C-side. The bassline of Metatroon (C1) bubbles on a low-end level. Pumping, but remaining stream-lined and in tact to keep the mood rumbling. There’s an eerie edge to this one. Possessed, and scattered with ghostly tones and haunting pads that revolve like a circling exorcist. Onto C2 and Desirée Falessi has something special up her sleeve. It’s definitely the most mindful track of this blistering care package. ‘Assigned Mind’ produces a stunning hybrid of electro-breaks with thick textures of throbbing acid sounds, purging synths and hypnotic melodies all becoming the centre-fold of this killer tune.
The horizon is in sight and the D-side is occupied by Phoro and Bauer, who both supply heaters with differing tendencies and execution. ‘Sister A’ from Phoro (D1) is sinister and twisted. Designed with a fistful of tech-house pulse and a darkened spirit, it’s peak-time heater for sure and set for when the walls are dripping. Switching the energy for the final burner is ‘Swing’ from Bauer on D2. It’s tenacious and steppy. Oozing with colourful deep driving grooves, it’s undeniably infectious and will set the dance alight one last time with it’s scintilating funky-flex feeling.
