PREMIERE: A2 – Dieru & Ricardo Mejia – Echohead [Doppel-Audio]

Doppel-Audio waste no time in announcing their next instalment after the killer success of Aron Volta and Kreutziger’s ‘Feel It’ EP. The PIV starlets set the charts alight and completely sold out, with all copies of the re-press getting snapped up too in quick succession. Big shoes to fill! Mexican wizards Dieru and Ricardo Mejia step up and offer a different vibration to take things down a darker, minimal avenue.

It’s the second major link up for the rising pair as a collective after joining forces last year to make an appearance on Honne’s debut VA with their weighty rumbler ‘Reckless Game’. Putting in the graft to establish themselves as independent artists, they team up once again and take the reigns of DP005, projecting 4 brand new cuts that showcase their infectious sound and impressive diversity. A1 ‘Crystallised’ provides a melancholic introduction to the EP with an ice cold atmosphere and eases into proceedings with skippy beats and glowing chords that completely set the tone. ‘Echohead’ takes things up a notch and provides a mysterious flavour with fizzy synths and effects that fluctuate throughout the engaging bassline. Warehouse notions on the next one as Dieru and Mejia switch things up on the B-side and expertly lay down the grooves on the ‘Barejo’ with sharp techy drums. One for the 2 steppas! They wrap up the EP with the spacey ‘Extravaganza’. Another deeper cut that shoots hypnotic, off beat notes and maintains the heads-down energy.
