Lets Discult return to the fold with the highly anticipated third edition of their vinyl-only series, once again in the shape of a heavy-duty four-track VA that’s pumped with the gritty grooves that we’ve come to expect from this sick label. Continuing with the concept of the previous two EP’s, label headz Discult Soundsystem signal the charge of the A1. The rest of the plate features three individual artists. Baertaub & Ollie Drummond are invited to make their label debut their label debut, alongside Edine as a separate entity from Discult Soundsystem (One half of the Discult duo).

A1 ‘Teknoid’ provides a viperous, super-charged intro to the EP from the DS boys with a high-magnitude peak-time rocket. The kind that fills warehouses with a menacing presence as soon as it comes in. Straight to the point, no fucking about. Power grooves, piercing drums and purring bass to shift the dancefloor up a few gears upon entrance.

Following on from the madness of its predessecer, Baurraub sends the vibe into orbit with a mystical, high-spirited illusion of sound. ‘Thanks In Advance’ (A2) is the perfect set-ender, a mirage of swirling synths and pads inject a sweet moment of reflection and dance-floor transcendence, but the track is packed with more than enough and groove and reverberating bass to keep the energy levels trembling right until the last beat.

The B-side wastes no time re-instating the vitality of the A1 back into the EP, as Edine take’s it up a few notches with his twisted bomb ‘Back To School (B1). Like Teknoid, the focus is on simplification, no-nonsense grooves and creating maximum dance-floor impact, and Edine easily achieves this with an efficient combo of acute technical percussion, acrobatic bass and live-wire percs fizzing about the mix.

Ollie Drummond closes the EP with his curiously eerie number ‘Cyberdawg’ (B2). It’s produced with a nicely adroit blend of minimalism and energy, asking questions of the dance-floor and pumping the atmosphere with a spooky minor-hysteria. Pouncing into every corner as the strong acid-line takes full control of the setting to stamp it’s presence and delve the mood into a deeper setting.
