B2 – Body Clinic – My Mate Dave [ND033]

Belfast’s Body Clinic is in serious form and provides the weapons for Neptune Discs’ next instalment. Label boss Astro has firmly stamped authority on the proggier tilts of tech-house with heavy-duty solo EPs from rising acts Wigs and Aiden Francis, plus a monster comp VA featuring tunes from high magnitude DJs including Roza Terenzi, Harrison BDP and DJ Life. Body Clinic himself is an act being firmly tipped for the top, his dangerous track ‘E-talking’ on Papa Nug’s and Oisins Suckerpunch label has ripped the roofs off dance-floor circuits all summer, and firmly put his name on the map. ND033 is a timely clash of Artist and label, both surging in parallel direction with their sound. BD’s pulsating blend of nitrous-induced tech-house and prog is just the tonic for this enticing label, where the tunes are exclusively for peak-time zones and only the dreamers and the high-energy outcasts are permitted.
The ‘Righteous EP’ delivers a pulsing quartet of original artillery. Inspired by the halcyon early 00’s paradise of Pacha, inside you’ll find relentless groovy basslines, technical drum-play, and outer-planetary atmospheres. All you need for the ultimate proggy work-out. A1 ‘The Righteous Observe’ pumps straight out of the blocks with a high adrenaline shot of uptempo tech-house. It’s dark and daring, super-charged with a full-throttle bassline and raucous synth-lines and stabs, attacking throughout like dark forces trying to escape a portal, whilst razor-sharp hats and snares cut like a blade and gush a tuff exterior for the drums.
A2 ‘Good Things Will Come’ is a hopeful weapon that’s packed with energy and good vibes, but still possessing a dark and purging edge. It’s got that creepa energy, tribalistic, dark and funky. Ride the wave of another defected bassline as the shifty drums create a serious groove and the hypnotic vocals infect your brain into a carbon mush of techy trance. B1 ‘Bongo Loco’ is a wicked tribalistic workout, fully utilising some dangerous bongos to max out the drums and showcase that this is a producer that can switch it up in an instant. The level of detailing in the drum programming is potent and highly effective, working perfectly with the other drum elements to construct a seriously tuff tackle.
Completing the EP is our premiere ‘My Mate Dave’. The dynamic B2 sustains itself firmly in the peak-time territory of the EP and feels like the final escape from the wormhole energy, as the embers of the night begin to fade, but the spirits remain firmly high from the previous madness. BC conjures one last bolt of driving proggy techno, powered by another driving bassline and a plethora of stunning synth-lines, overlapping in perfect sonic unison to illuminate the night sky with beams of electronic shooting stars.
