What started as an platform for transfusing peace, love and music has grown to become a well respected outlet for underground music. A prominent feature on both Soundcloud and Youtube for showcasing an entire spectrum of styles. Parisian based, Novaj 新し is a certified go-to arena for all like-minded individuals to dig on the endless endeavour for sick tunes. Out of no where, they announced their first quest into label territories. Armed to the teeth with an assembly of talented artists at their disposal. Their first release comprises of a 9-track VA of space weapons that is fuelled with an impressive pool of diverse sounds.
The EP kicks off with a gem from Fasme and Alder. ‘Métamorphe’ unleashes an ambient wall of noise onto it’s breakbeat backdrop and is embraced with a catherine wheel of acidic bass shots and shimmering hats. The in-form Vitess takes off with his own breaks adventure and applies another atmospheric, sonic pallet that shines with gleaming pads and laser synths. Nephase cooks up a deep house beauty that is produced with emotion and imagination. The breakdown is incredible and re-enforces the stratospheric nature of the EP. Mark Braumer brings us ‘Back 2 Life’ and injects energy into the the mix with a Detroit inspired house track that boasts some killer chords. Dubstriker hits a home-run with ‘Rollercoaster’, a modern sounding PIV esque stunner that creates a fluctuating wave of groove for us to ride.
The next one is special as we get treated to a moment of true transcendence thanks to KOMARTSOV. ‘Time-Travel’ almost ironically makes time stand still and provides an echo chamber of progressive breaks and nostalgic moods. Label owner Di Barsotti and Chouber transport us to the next dimension with ‘Escape’. An essential track that flickers between the lines of deep, acid house that exudes it’s own energy force. Rising UKG star Nathan Pinder occupies the penultimate spot and it’s a bomb, delivering a pumping techy roller with ‘1 Day Sheller’. The EP closes in style with a well executed, down-tempo UKG burner from Occibel and Bassi. ‘Placebo’ incorporates a unique injection of rolling UK bass and breaks, with a plethora of tantalising synths and ghostly under-tones.
