Mehlor is back on the block with four brand new pulsing cuts and makes a return to the Talman fold after his duo-EP with Alex Ranerro back in 2020. An ever-present in the underground quadrants of Leeds and highly respected from those that know; it’s his first full EP of 2022 and he’s ready to unleash a nifty bag of energy-fuelled pumpers to your bass bins. Inside the Hunted EP there’s a proper mix-bag of sounds for a variety of moods, high-octane speedy rollers, rave inspired steppa’s and it finishes on an uplift high with a signature floaty riddim to close out the EP. Vinyl-only, so get locked onto the pre-order tabs below.
‘Hunted’ (A1) is a high-speed pursuit through a dark city, ducking and diving with it’s weighty bass, skippy drums and over-flowing groove. Just as the driver thinks’ he’s got away, sirens emerge in the second half of the bassline in the form of the devishly dotted organ bass to ramp up the chase. ‘Gibberish’ (A2) is cunning and steppy, crafted with a chunky flow and typically fluctuating low-cut bass as you’d always expect from Mehlor. It’s technical and forward-thinking, but there’s some ravey stabs jabbing in each build-up and acid synths pumping away in the bassline to mix it with an oldskool flex.
Get strapped in for ‘LTNS’ (B1). Gasping to be dropped when the energy levels are getting sweaty and hitting their peak, it get’s into its dark, driving groove early-on and make’s for a wicked switch-up in a set. Mehlor has an adroit talent for making his drums deft, slick and stripped but packed with an acute power to get the club bouncing. LTNS starts off as a pouncing hammer of bass and groove but enchanting noises and willowy pads seep their way into the mix as the track progresses to maximise it’s misty club sound.
Closing the EP is ‘Echo Beach’ (B2), it’s high-tempo and angelic with an elevating nature. Like we mentioned in the intro, it exhibits that classic Mehlor sound from his earlier productions, deep and groovy with stunning pads and moving synths that are automated to perfection. It’s a breath of fresh air and will go down very nicely as a bubbly, soul-lifting closer in the warmer climates.
