Essex/LDN based heads Gather welcome Jubley back to the fold to kick start their 2021 activity. Featuring previously in the their debut VA, they acquire his skills once again for his second solo venture with the label . Still quite fresh on the scene, Gather have already acquired a solid roster of artists. Pushing the sounds of local talent inside the movement with Soundboy Cookie, ZeroFG and 9TRANE all involved with their first releases. It’s good to see a label invest in the community and will certainly see them grow as a collective force in the future. Jubley put the work in last year and continues to make a name for himself. Getting Radio air-play from Rinse FM and Radio 1xtra and garnering support from Plastician and Keysound.
The ‘Lost Dubs’ EP, subtly titled after Jubley’s hard-drive wiped all of his material. Four of the sole surviving tracks all feature in here and he is armed with a clasp of dark UKG heaters. Fuelled with an underground edge and grit that can tackle all spectrums of a set. A1 ‘Rave Crossed Loves’ opens up with fighting style and fuses two styles. UKG beats pave the foundations and Jubley expertly blends a grime inspired bassline with some oldskool touches. A2 ‘Regrets’ is our premiere for today and we’re all over it. A dark and grungy stomper that carries a mysterious, gloomy mood but still designed to cause dance-floor damage.
There’s no letting up on the flip-side and ‘Angry Waves’ take’s B1. Another grimey, garage flex that’s dominated by sharp low-end hits that dance around some wavey strings. Calling the curtain with one last banger, ‘East End Shuffle’ occupies B2. Like the rest of these tracks it can only be played in smoky clubs. Jubley expertly paints a dark atmosphere with his beats and there’s some clever East London vox sprayed all over the track that re-enforces the grungy rhythms.
